Spike VGA Show Summary Tuesday, December 15 2009
Comments (1)The annual Spike VGA ceremony took place last night. Not only were there celebrities pretending to know what a game actually was and Tony Hawk totally avoiding bringing up Ride, a sleuth of exclusive video game trailers were shown and are now available online in High Definition. To save a small fraction of your precious life, here they are below:
True Crime:- The last two games could really only be described as either unfinished and buggy or not great and buggy so this third game could hopefully give some redemption to the series. The setting is quite unique for it's genre and hopefully the new team will learn from the mistakes made.
Medal of Honour:- ...deja vu? I think this must be Modern Warfare 2's identical twin.
Arkham Asylum 2:- This sequel was just bound to happen. Same developers as the last game and they might be able to make better use of the Unreal Engine 3. Arkham Asylum was the studio's second game and first game using the UE3. Expectations will be high!
Spec Ops: The Line:- And to think that the previous instalments in the series were budget titles! Definitely one to watch but a lot of work and effort is going to have to be put into it if it doesn't want to look like a modern day Gears of War.
The Force Unleashed 2:- Can't really say much since I haven't played the first game but it will be coming out next year and the protagonist from the first will be in. Some of the problems from the first game were due to a lack of polish so with it being built using the tech from the first, them problems shouldn't be in it.
A Good Week Monday, November 30 2009
Comments (0)Some good news has started flowing again with the announcement of some surprising developments in the latest games.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is now going to have a PC beta which will be coming in early 2010. The PS3 beta is already out now in the wild and this date has came as a disappointment to some. The reason behind this is that there has to be some behind the scenes optimizations with the game. Some great features of the PC version over the console versions of the game is DirectX 11, 32 player multiplayer, clans, friend lists and best of all – dedicated servers unlike another big, multiplayer game recently released :/
A sequel to the super addictive, mass life consuming game Puzzle Quest has been announced named Puzzle Quest 2 and is aimed at being developed with the first one in mind unlike it's predecessor Galactrix. Galactrix wasn't as good as the first one and it did disappoint many fans but Infinite Interactive have said they are putting a lot of focus on this and not on any other projects they have in development.
Thief 4 development is said to be currently going well and is on track.
A new map for Battlefield Heroes is now available to play on the PTE currently called Project: Mayhem. It is a fairly large map with a big focus on vehicles. It doesn't have a final name and suggestions are being taken from the community. The map also isn't entirely finished and still needs some much needed tweaking. From what I've played, the tanks and commandos seem to have the upper hand a bit too much with soldiers losing out the most.
Steam have some great deals on at the minute such as Lucidity, Battlefield 2: Complete Collection, World of Goo and the THQ Complete Pack at really low prices. Check them out in full here: http://store.steampowered.com/early-holiday
Happy Halloween! Sunday, November 1 2009
Comments (4)EA has detailed that the limited edition of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be priced the same as the normal version. The limited edition will feature six exclusive locks: four for Bad Company 2 and two for Battlefield 1943. The unlocks are as follow:
- Improved Vehicle Armor
- Supreme Vehicle Firepower
- Vehicle Motion Sensor
- Tracer Dart Pistol
A M1A1 Submachine gun and M1911 pistol are for Battlefield 1943. Still no sight of new maps for the game. It will of course be in limited supplies and has most likely been done to drum up more interest in the game from people that aren't fans of the series.
Steam are offering the first STALKER game for only $5 until Monday. Well worth the money and if you haven't played it, shame on you! You've been spending too much time outside! ;)
A unexpected discovery has been made in the Left 4 Dead 2 demo files that happens to have the names of two upcoming DLC packs named the 'Miracle Pack' and the 'Apocalyptic Pack'.
Alien Breed Evolution will be separated into three episodes with the PC version coming sometime after the Xbox 360 exclusivity. The episodes are also supposedly bigger than they should of originally been lasting around five to eight hours each.
Painkiller: Resurrection somehow slid into release quietly after a long period of no news on it. This kind of situation has happened before on a number of other games where the development gets into trouble or the game is actually bad or both. You can buy it from Steam for only $29.99 but only $19.99 from Amazon. I'm warning you now that it's supposed to be pretty buggy!
A group of Austrailians are making arses of themselves by asking that the game should be re-rated. In other words, banned. I'll assume that you already know about the other MW2 related news that's hard to believe. ;)
A sequel to Dead Space is in development and will be released in 2010 with the name of Dead Space 2.
The 'Pumpkin Patch' is now available for Team Fortress 2. It adds a new King of the Hill map named 'Harvest' and a bunch of Halloween-themed items.
On the note of Halloween, as I'm writing this, no one has knocked on my door. There was a lot of screaming when my mum answered the door last year but that's probably something to do with their costumes. Right?
Oh, and a quick congratulations to nativejam being promoted to a community moderator on Battlefield Heroes. Best of luck to him and of course lets make sure we get native to get us some specialist treatment on there.
Buck Wild BFH Servers! Friday, October 16 2009
Comments (15)Buck Wild finally has it's two servers for Battlefield Heroes up and running despite their empty eeriness at times. Many thanks to goldfox64 and UrMumFTW for providing them which are located in North America and Europe. The buzz around the forum is that an Austrailan server will come online at some point. Below are the links for them:
USA: http://www.battlefieldheroes.com/bookmark/server:7cf43693-88bd-408b-a796-19c95e4021ff
EU: http://www.battlefieldheroes.com/bookmark/server:5490f400-3739-42d5-a1a2-14ebc12e44cb
DirectX 11 gaming is now starting to kick off. ATI has announced that the HD5870 will fully support DirectX 11 and even be about twice as powerful as its predecessor the HD4870. Recent tests and reviews performed by hardware sites have also been very positive about the new graphics card saying that it does live up well to it's price and expectations.
Even now, Battleforge recently received an update allowing DirectX11 effects in time for the release of Windows 7. The Windows 7 RC (which is what I'm using now) supports DirectX 11 and if you can somehow steal a HD5870 from a heavily guarded security truck, let us know on the forum what the new effects are like.
CrimeCraft, the Unreal Engine 3 powered thrid-person shooter is now going free-2-play near the end of the month with $4.99 and $9.99 subscription plans available for people who want more content and extra features. The quaility of the game has came into question by some and the number of players isn't spectacular so why have a $9.99 subscription?
Dragon Age: Origins Character Creator has now been released. The Character Creator will allow players to create character/s for use in the upcoming game and also to show off to their friends. Dragon Age: Origins will be released on November 3rd for North America and November 6th for Europe.
Pre-orders for Battlefield 1943 are now available on the EA Store.
If you pre-order Left 4 Dead 2 through participating digital distribution channels (eg. Steam), you will get a 10% discount AND early access to the demo which is available on October 27th. Oh...it's being banned in Austrailia with an appeal by Valve on going and there's a fancy baseball bat thrown in with the pre-order.
Finally, Final Fantasy XIV Beta will be PC only.
